First Aid Advice
"Don't walk away and leave a friend to DIE".
With Binge Drinking being high on the agenda, a new campaign initiative has been created with wide ranging support.
The campaign "Don't walk away and leave a friend to DIE" (reffered to herein as: DWA) has the support of Professor Ian Gilmore (MD PRCP President of the Royal College of Physicians UK Lead on Alcohol Abuse. The Home Office's Ziggy MacDonald, Head of Alcohol Strategy Unit fully back DWA.
Other supporters of the initiative include Lord Ara Darzi who has expressed how 'impressed' he was with the campaign which made the finals of the Health Service Journal Awards (HSJ) in 2006. The campaign has also received the NW Public Health Award 2007 for NHS Contribution to Public Health - Provider Award. The First Aid Advice is located on www.dh.gov.uk. Simply type in Alcohol and Young People. Entitled "When Things Go Wrong" (external website link) you can copy and paste the information on to your own headed paper and add your logo on to the DWA poster provided. You can also post a link for DWA on your website and there is also a 6 minute DVD available to you free of charge.

GROWING SUPPORT:
Network Television programmes Eastenders, Coronation Street, Doctors, Holby City, The Bill, Byker Grove and Grange Hill have all agreed to display posters on the notice boards of their shows. Grange Hill have also made available some of their actors for photoshoots. DWA has now appeared in Holby City, Emmerdale, Hollyoaks and The Bill reaching over 40 million viewers.

The Alcohol Advisory Council of New Zealand have engaged with DWA and the South African Government now taking campaign on Re-shooting poster and in ZULU.Campaign has just been take up by the ex-pat community in FRANCE. The National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre of Australia and the Canadian Centre on Substance abuse are both reviewing the Campaign. The 4 Police Services of Wales have just adopted DWA as their National summer anti binge drinking campaign and Merseyside, Lancashire, Jersey, Nottinghamshire and Cheshire Police through Arcangel are doing the same. The Campaign has now gone into Gibraltar.
I was a delegate at the NW Alcohol Summit in Dec 07 and now have the full backing of Dominic Harrison Director of Public Health North West Alcohol Harm Reduction Chair.
