Silos of Opportunity:
Joined Up Risk Management and Business Continuity

A joint meeting between Manchester Business Continuity Forum and the Institute of Risk Management North West to be held on Wednesday 14 April 2010 in Manchester.

The purpose of the event is to demystify both risk management and business continuity management. Building on that, our aim is to explore how the two disciplines can work together more closely to find and exploit opportunities. There will be a number of case studies to illustrate the points made and a breakout session will enable participants to work together to understand the issues and opportunities.

We hope that the day will promote business continuity and the MBCF to IRM members and vice versa.
The meeting will benefit:
  • Managers who are interested in how best to introduce or improve risk management and business continuity in their organisations (both large and small)
  • Professionals and consultants in both disciplines who are keen to improve their knowledge and understanding of how the two disciplines fit together and deliver best value.

AGENDA:

  • 10.30 Introduction - Meeting to be chaired by Steve White, Director Risk Assurance Services, PwC
  • Risk Management Overview, Andy Garlick, IRM North West
Business Continuity Overview, Mick Kirby, Risk Manager, Turning Point

Mike and Andy will set the direction for the day by providing thumbnail portraits of their disciplines and the argument for why there are opportunities to be realised.

  • Risk Management and Business Continuity: How Can They Best Work Together - Workshop facilitated by Jason Melia, British Council

This session will enable participants to work together to develop their understanding of how the various activities can fit together to give an efficient and effective approach to the challenges we face. Building on this Jason will help the teams to identify actions to improve current and common practices.
