The GMB will stage a protest demonstration tomorrow in Sheffield as an Enterprise Inns tenant is taken to court over unpaid charges.
GMB: The union will stage a protest
David Ball, licensee at the Fleur de Lys, in Totley, will appear at Sheffield County Court tomorrow morning, faced with eviction over non-payment.
Graham Benton, GMB organiser said: “David Ball is one of many pub tenants who have turned to GMB for help. GMB will be demonstrating its support for David and will step up the campaign to enable his colleagues to make a decent living from their pubs.”
The demonstration will begin at 10am outside the court tomorrow, and protesters will be accompanied by a fife and drum band — which has traditionally been used to protest against evictions.
At GMB’s conference last week in Blackpool licensee members gathered to press the Prime Minister to refer the tie to the Office of Fair Trading, in the wake of the damning Business & Enterpise Committees report into pubco power.
